CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> SPECIFICATIONS <br /> PROJECT NO.: 25-6030 <br /> TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION AT SEGERSTROM AVENUE AND ROSEWOOD <br /> AVENUE <br /> 4.06 MAINTAINING EXISTING AND TEMPORARY ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS <br /> The contractor shall keep the traffic signal system in operations at all times during <br /> construction except for the two switchover shutdowns described below. <br /> The traffic signal system consists of but not limited to the traffic signal and safety lights, <br /> vehicle and pedestrian detection, twisted pair interconnect cables, fiber optic cables, <br /> Emergency Vehicle and Railroad Pre-emption Systems, CCTV and/or Video Imaging <br /> Detection Systems, Wireless Communication System. The contractor is required to <br /> maintain these systems in working condition during construction by providing temporary <br /> wiring, splicing,relocating or any other necessary action. If necessary,the Contractor shall <br /> be responsible for providing temporary traffic signal modification plans prepared by a <br /> registered Traffic/Civil Engineer specializing in Traffic Signal Modifications. <br /> 1. Traffic Signal and Safety lights: Contractor shall provide temporary overhead <br /> wiring to maintain all vehicle and pedestrian signal indications and pedestrian push <br /> buttons and safety lights in operation. Maintain operation of undamaged loops <br /> where feasible. Contractor shall provide temporary traffic signal equipment <br /> (including detection devices) to maintain operations of signalized intersection. <br /> 2. Traffic Signal Fiber Optic and Interconnect Cable: Contractor shall provide <br /> temporary cable and/or splicing necessary to maintain continuous communication <br /> from the TMC to the traffic signal under construction and other traffic signals on <br /> the same fiber optic and interconnect cable. <br /> 3. Emergency Vehicle and Railroad Pre-emption: Contractor shall provide temporary <br /> wiring to maintain all pre-emption systems in working order. <br /> 4. CCTV System: Contractor shall provide temporary cable and/or splicing necessary <br /> to maintain the CCTV system in working order. <br /> 5. Temporary Video Detection: Where temporary detection is required due to road <br /> construction activity or extended overhead wiring, video detection shall be installed <br /> before construction commences to ensure continuous operation of the presence <br /> detection. <br /> Traffic signal system shutdowns for switchover of equipment,if applicable,shall be limited <br /> to two times per traffic signal. Each shutdown period shall be limited to the hours between <br /> 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. First shutdown is allowed for switching from the existing wiring <br /> to the temporary wiring and second shutdown is allowed for switching from the temporary <br /> wiring to the new permanent wiring. If deemed necessary by the Engineer, the <br /> contractor shall provide traffic control personnel to direct traffic during shutdown <br /> period. The Inspector shall be notified at least five (5) working days before the intended <br /> shutdowns. <br /> The contractor shall furnish "BE PREPARED TO STOP" and "STOP" signs during any <br /> shutdown period. Two "BE PREPARED TO STOP" signs and two "STOP" signs shall be <br /> 54 <br />
