CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> SPECIFICATIONS <br /> PROJECT NO.: 25-6030 <br /> TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION AT SEGERSTROM AVENUE AND ROSEWOOD <br /> AVENUE <br /> 4.32 COMMUNICATION CABLES <br /> A. SIGNAL INTERCONNECT CABLE <br /> This work shall be in accordance with the Plans, Section 86-1.02F(3)(d)(v), "Signal <br /> Interconnect Cables,"of the Caltrans Standard Plans&Specifications and these Special <br /> Provisions. <br /> Signal Interconnect Cable(SIC)shall be AWG#22 and conform to IMSA Specification <br /> 40-2, REA Specification PE-39 and the following: <br /> SIC shall not be spliced unless shown otherwise on the plan.The number of pairs to be <br /> provided shall be as shown on the plans. The ends of unused SIC conductors shall be <br /> folded back and taped securely to the cable <br /> Where splicing is required, the Contractor is responsible for supplying the splice <br /> closures and all accessories including bond connectors and proper end plates to provide <br /> splices as recommended by the manufacturer. <br /> Manufacturer recommended lubricant shall be applied to the cable to reduce friction <br /> between the cable and the duct. Mechanical aids and pulling cable or ropes shall be <br /> used as required. <br /> Personnel shall be stationed at each cabinet, splice vault and/or pull box through which <br /> the cable is to be pulled to observe and lubricate the cable. <br /> At least ten feet of slack shall be provided at each pull box. The shield shall be <br /> grounded at each trunk splice and at every terminus point. <br /> The cable shall be securely fastened in-place within pull boxes,vaults, and/or cabinets. <br /> The cable shall not be stressed beyond the Manufacturer's minimum bending radius at <br /> any time. <br /> All exposed cable ends shall be protected from moisture ingress. <br /> Following installation of the cable in the duct, all duct entrances at pull boxes, vaults <br /> and cabinets shall be sealed with duct sealing compound to prevent the ingress of <br /> moisture, foreign materials, and rodents. <br /> Cable markers shall be used to identify the cable and pair-count. <br /> The Contractor is responsible for all testing and documentation required to establish <br /> approval and acceptance of the production, installation and operation of fabrication <br /> materials and installation hardware. The following identifies the specific quality <br /> control requirements for this specification. <br /> 76 <br />
