ARTICLE V <br />5.0 ASSIGNMENT & OTHER SPECIAL PAY ADDITIVES <br />5.1 Bilingual Assignment Pay. An employee who speaks both English and either Spanish, <br />Samoan, Vietnamese, or other languages designated by the Police Chief, will be paid a <br />monthly assignment pay differential in accordance with the criteria and amounts set forth <br />below: <br />A. An employee who works in a position where it is essential to carry out duties and <br />responsibilities of a critical and/or emergency nature without ready access to backup <br />assistance, or positions where bilingual public contact is a major and essential <br />element of the work being performed shall be paid a monthly differential of one <br />hundred seventy five dollars ($175) above their then current base monthly salary step, <br />upon certification by the Executive Director of Human Resources that the employee <br />has satisfactorily demonstrated conversational fluency in both languages. <br />B. Employees who receive bilingual assignment pay shall recertify their bilingual <br />capability every three (3) years after the date of initial certification. Employees who <br />do not successfully pass required recertification examinations shall have their <br />bilingual assignment pay removed. <br />5.2 Acting Pay. Acting pay shall be defined as the temporary assignment of an employee to <br />perform work of a job class (represented by the Association) which is assigned to a higher <br />salary schedule than their regular job class. An employee who is temporarily appointed by the <br />Chief of Police to serve in an acting capacity for two (2) weeks or more and who is <br />responsible for the full range of duties and responsibilities assigned to the higher level <br />classification, shall receive a five percent (5%) increase in base salary or the minimum salary <br />of the higher level classification (whichever is higher) for all time worked in the higher job <br />classification. <br />A. Employees temporarily assigned to serve in an acting capacity of an Executive <br />Management (Executive Director) classification for thirty (30) consecutive calendar <br />days or more and who is responsible for the full range of duties and responsibilities <br />assigned to the Executive Management position shall receive a ten percent (10%) <br />increase or the minimum salary of the Executive Management classification <br />(whichever is higher) for all time worked in the higher job classification. <br />B. An employee must be qualified (i.e. meet the minimum qualifications) for the higher <br />position in order to be paid for acting pay. <br />13 <br />
