City of Santa Ana <br />compatible and consistent with the other buildings <br />included in the proposed project and would not <br />degrade or detract from the existing style and <br />character of the neighborhood, which is a mixture <br />of uses and one- and two-story buildings <br />constructed throughout the 20th century. The <br />appearance of the building would be visually <br />integrated into the surroundings by using roofs of <br />varying height on the project structures and by <br />providing covered walkways to link different areas <br />on site. Therefore, the proposed project would not <br />be inconsistent with this policy. <br />The project site consists of a previously developed <br />religious facility surrounded by a mix of urban <br />uses, including single- and multi-family residential, <br />religious, and commercial development. The <br />proposed project would be compatible and <br />appropriate at the proposed location with the <br />surrounding community with the approval of a <br />CUP to allow for religious facilities within a <br />residential zone; and approval of a valiance for the <br />increase in building height. In addition, the <br />proposed project will be separated, and thereby <br />protected, from adjacent uses by the existing 6-foot <br />high wall and the landscaping that would be <br />installed with the project. Thus, the proposed <br />project is consistent with this policy. <br />The proposed project would result in the <br />development of a new meditation center. The <br />project site is designated as Low Density <br />Residential (LR-7) by the Land Use Element of the <br />Santa Ana General Plan and is within a Residential <br />(R1) zoning designation. Under this designation, <br />the proposed religious facility use Is permitted <br />with approval of a CUP.
